I was speaking to a colleague the other day—a fellow woman who also works in medicine and is looking to build an audience on social media. She asked me a question that made me stop and think:

“You always planned on having a large presence on social media, right?”

And it made me seriously think...

Did I plan on having an audience on social media when I was starting a career in medicine?

No. Absolutely not.

I don’t think I even knew what social media was or could become back then.

But I always knew I wanted to do something bigger than just medicine. Something that allowed me to share my voice, provide value, and have fun.

I always knew I wanted to strive for more, but I didn’t know the pathway to get there or even the options available to me.

Social media fell into my lap, and I ran with it.

The Real Housewives of Dallas was almost the same. An opportunity fell into my lap, and I decided to go for it.

I get questions about different aspects of my life all the time: being a medical doctor, being on TV, being a mother, owning multiple businesses, and I’ve never dedicated time to sit and answer all of your questions.
